Rolling Mill Furnaces

Industrial rolling mill furnaces are the most critical component of rolling lines, in which steel billets are heated to rolling temperature (1,100–1,250 °C). At FURNOTECH, we offer three different furnace technologies — pusher type, walking hearth type, and walking beam type — designed to match the capacity, product type, and energy infrastructure of each production facility.

Pusher Type Rolling Mill Furnaces

Pusher Type Reheating Furnaces are the most classic and widely used furnace type. In these systems, billets are pushed consecutively into the furnace using a hydraulic or mechanical pusher and advance along the furnace.

Application Area:

Preferred in small and medium-scale rolling mills with production lines of up to 100 tons/hour capacity.

l

Low Installation Cost

Due to its simple structure and minimal preparation requirements, installation cost is considerably more economical compared to other furnace types.

Simple Operation System

It does not contain complex moving mechanisms, so it can be easily operated by any operator.

Easy Maintenance and Repair

The low number of moving parts and the fact that most equipment is positioned outside the furnace minimizes maintenance time and cost.

Walking Hearth Rolling Mill Furnaces

In walking hearth furnaces, the material rests on fixed support base plates and is advanced through the furnace using the lift–advance–lower principle of movable plates. This system minimizes friction of billets against the furnace floor, preserving both the surface quality of the material and the service life of the furnace floor refractory.

Unlike pusher-type furnaces, heat is transferred to the billets from 3 surfaces (top and sides). This structure improves temperature homogeneity within the material, reduces the billet’s residence time in the furnace, and enables higher ton/hour production capacity compared to a pusher furnace of the same dimensions.

Application Area:

Preferred in medium and large-scale rolling mills with production lines of up to 150 tons/hour capacity.

l

Long-Lasting Furnace Floor Refractory

Since billets advance without friction against the furnace floor, the floor refractory life increases significantly, minimizing maintenance downtime and reducing refractory maintenance costs.

Fuel Savings and Temperature Homogeneity

Heat transfer from three surfaces ensures energy is transferred to the material more efficiently and evenly, reducing fuel consumption and minimizing temperature variations within the billet.

Walking Beam Rolling Mill Furnaces

Walking beam rolling mill furnaces are the most advanced type of rolling mill furnace in use today. In this system, billets rest on fixed support beams and are advanced step by step through the furnace using the lift–advance–lower principle of walking beams. Cooling water circulated through the moving and stationary beams keeps these elements rigid under high temperatures. Walking beam systems represent the highest level of industry standards in terms of mechanical precision, fuel efficiency, and thermal homogeneity.

Application Area:

Preferred in medium and large-scale rolling mills with production lines of up to 180 tons/hour capacity, especially in lines processing slabs and blooms. Ideal for modern facilities requiring high precision, low energy consumption, and long service life.

Long-Lasting Refractory Structure

Billets move on support beams without contact with the furnace floor refractory, eliminating friction-related wear, extending maintenance intervals, and ensuring operational continuity.

Excellent Temperature Homogeneity

Since billets are heated from four surfaces inside the furnace, temperature distribution is extremely uniform, improving product quality and preventing defects caused by temperature differentials during rolling.

Maximum Energy Efficiency

Heat transfer from four surfaces ensures energy is delivered to the material in the most efficient manner, minimizing fuel consumption while maximizing overall furnace efficiency.
